Lower eyelid surgery

PROCEDURE:

Lower eyelid surgery involves removing of a small fragment of the skin and fat hernia causing the excessive bulging of the lower eyelid skin. Sometimes, instead of removing the surplus fat, the fascia of the lower eyelid lining is released in order to soften the edge between the lid and cheek.

Not required.

SIDE EFFECTS:

• Temporary discomfort, swelling, eyelid discoloration.
• Temporary feeling of dryness in eyes.
• Sensation of a foreign body in the eye.
• Over sensitiveness to light and wind.
• Excessive tear production.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS:

Infection, bleeding, swelling. Feeling of dryness in eyes. Difficulties in closing your eyes (very rarely permanent)

RECOVERY:

• Reading: 2 - 3 days.
• The stitches are taken out on the fifth day after the surgery.
• Return to work: 7 - 10 days.
• Intensive activities: 2-3 weeks.
• Contact lenses: 2-3 weeks.
• Total recovery of the swelling: up to several weeks.

FINAL EFFECT DURATION:

11-19 years. Sometimes permanent.
