Breast uplift (Mastopexy)

PROCEDURE:

Breast uplift (Mastopexy) involves lifting and enhancing the shape of the breasts by removing excessive skin and reshaping the breast tissue. The areola of nipple is lifted (in case of excess loose skin, it may also be reduced).
Mastopexy can be performed from the incision around the areola, with a vertical scar down to the inframammary fold or with a scare in the shape of an anchor.
In case of the gland atrophy (e.g. after breast feeding) the final effect can be improved by adding breast implants.

DURATION:

1-3 hours

ANAESTHESIA:

Local, with tranquilizers or general anaesthesia.

STAY IN THE CLINIC:

1-3 days.

SIDE EFFECTS:

• Temporary swelling.
• Altered sensitivity of the nipple.
• Permanent scars.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS:

• Thick, wide scars, loss of skin.
• Infections.
• Asymmetry of mammillae.
• Permanent loss of sensitivity in nipples or breasts.

RECOVERY:

• Dressing: 7-10 days.
• Stitches are removed after about 7-10 days.
• Postoperative bra: about a month.
• Return to work: over a week.
• Intensive activities: a month.
• Scar maturation: from several months to one year (Stiff, red scars become pale and fade gradually. However, they do not disappear completely.).

FINAL EFFECT DURATION:

Varies. Gravity, pregnancy, aging or loss of weight may lead to recurrent drooping of breasts. The effects of the surgery can be prolonged and enhanced by applying artificial breast and adequate prevention (e.g. sports bra) during intensive physical activities.
